Common questions that were asked during the year

Question: How did you become involved and passionate about the children and people of Honduras?

In February 2004 we accompanied a church group that was visiting Sociedad Amigos de los Niños in Honduras. I went with the intention of serving as a translator on a medical brigade. Being mortally terrified of snakes, scorpions and bugs I enlisted the support of my husband and then 14 year old daughter who accompanied me. I have never seen those snakes or scorpions and only a few bugs. My husband fell totally in love with everything Honduran as the plane touched down in Tegucigalpa - it took me about four hours and our daughter about a day. Before the sun set on that very first day we knew that we had found a special place and that we could never turn away.

Question: How did you begin your organization?

My husband and I are co-owners of a marketing firm (MG Studios) specializing in design and photography. As soon as we returned to Ohio we decided to use our skills to raise awareness and funds for our children in Honduras...we immediately set to work on the book, A Pocket of Heaven. It quickly became evident that for a sustainable impact on our children’s lives we needed to fully commit ourselves and establish a foundation...hence, Hope For Honduran Children.

Question: How have you been able to allow it to flourish?

Our Passion - feverish hard work and strong networking have lead us to where we are today.

Question: What are some vital connections you have made and how did you go about making those connections?

We have made many connections throughout the United States, Canada, Great Britain, and Italy.  In Honduras we have connected with Cardinal Oscar Rodriguez, The Public Affairs Director of the U.S. Embassy, the former President and First Lady, the Rotary Club of Tegucigalpa Sur, and a number of successful businessmen.
